Alu-wood blinds, also known as aluwood blinds, are aluminium blinds with a wood look. These types of blinds are available in 25mm or 50mm tick slats and have a similar look to Venetian blinds, but with a wooden finish over each aluminium slat. Typically alu-wood blinds are used in kitchens and bathrooms where moisture will be a problem.
The benefits of alu-wood blinds
- Alu-wood blinds are easy to clean.
- Slats are mechanically stronger since each slat is made of aluminium, however slats can be permanently dented if bent.
- UV resistant.
- Tolerates moisture well.
- Lighter than its wooden counterpart.
- Fire retardant.
- Easy to store.
- Little to no maintenance.
- Fast manufacturing time with a 10 to 15 day turnaround time.
Taking into consideration that alu-wood blinds are more costly, it bares mentioning that the benefits of alu-wood blinds supersede the cost.
Maintenance
Due to the wood layer it is recommended that alu-wood blinds only be cleaned using a dry or damp cloth. If any water is spilled on the blinds it should dried immediately as the wooden layer will absorb the moisture and separate from the aluminium slats.
Installation
Installation of alu-wood blinds are the same as regular blinds and can be done by the DIY enthusiast however the blinds have to be purchased to fit the length of the window as it is difficult to cut the slats. Care should be taken not to bend the slats as it may result in permanent denting.
All alu-wood blinds have a 1 year factory warranty and includes screws, safety cleat, mounting brackets, plugs and installation instructions. In short: everything you would need for a DIY installation.
